About Us

We respectfully acknowledge that Raven Hoods is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the səlilwətaɬ – Tsleil-Waututh Nation. We recognize that we live, work, and play on lands inhabited by the Tsleil-Waututh people since time immemorial. We honour their enduring connection to this land, its waters, and its resources, and express our gratitude for their stewardship.

The Love Story

The Family Behind Raven Hoods Emporium Café

Hello! We are the family behind Raven Hoods Emporium Café

Jamil, Sabrina, Kamilah, Alanah and Betty

Sabrina and her daughters have called the Raven Woods community home for nearly a decade, and Jamil, who fell in love with these three Raven Woods birds, joined them three years ago.

Raven Woods is a special place, and anyone visiting for the first time is struck by the beautiful drive along Dollarton Hwy, the hidden magic of the TWN land and Raven Woods’ West Coast architecture.

Last Fall Jamil and Sabrina were married, blending and completing their Raven Woods nest.

Of course, we can’t forget our most special family member – Little Miss Betty Boots, our Shih Tzu-Havanese cross! It feels like having a dog is practically a requirement for living in Raven Woods, and it was through our walks with Betty that we connected with neighbours. During these walks, we kept hearing the same things: “We live in the most beautiful place but there isn’t anywhere to grab a coffee or convenience.” We heard this so often that one day, we decided to do something about it.

That’s how the Raven Hoods Pop-Up Café was born, and it was warmly embraced by the community, especially the Chocolate Zucchini Loaf! Soon, we were popping up at local events, like Blueridge Good Neighbour Day and the Whey-ah-Wichen Canoe Festival at Cates Park, where we proudly sponsored the event. But setting up and taking down for street pop-ups requires a lot of preparation and time. It’s not our career—it’s a passion project that lets us embrace entrepreneurship in creative ways while giving back to the community all while giving our daughters real-world work experience, under our guidance

Both of us have full-time careers: Jamil with over two decades in professional photography, film production, web development, and running a full-service print shop; and Sabrina with more than 20 years in the health, wellness, and beauty industries. Over the summer, as our careers and life with two teens got busier, we realized we needed to adapt the café to our lives – and so a new version of Raven Hoods was born.

We continue to offer organic coffee, artisan sodas, and baked treats while expanding to include pre-packaged frozen meals, showcasing local vendors and last-minute essentials. Our focus remains on building community connections, hosting special events, supporting local businesses, and reducing both our and your carbon footprint. Our vision is for Raven Hoods to be a platform where everyone in the community can thrive—whether you’re a home baker, fitness instructor, health professional, or running a local repair business. Supporting local promotes sustainability and creates ripples of opportunity for all to flourish.

Raven Woods is a unique community – one way in, one way out – nestled in nature with that distinctive North Shore vibe. We believe a unique community deserves a unique approach.

The future of Raven Woods lies in the hands of its residents, and we’re excited to see how we can all come together to raise the vibration even higher and support each other the way neighbours should.
